One of my recent projects has been to do a photo shoot with some beautiful friends and the lovely Hanna Shay of www.hannashayphotography.smugmug.com . What we did was meet at one of the most gorgeous parks in the area with an amazing view of the sea behind it. We took some pictures of Taylor and Michelle wearing some dresses and then took off to the Pitt St. Bridge where we had the backdrop of palm trees and walkways too.

It was a fun shoot. We had to do all the changing in a tiny little playground bathroom in between legitimate playground folks. And we had no mirror...so all in all it turned out great. Hanna Shay was relaxed and fun and we loved getting to know her. She has a great eye and did super shots despite the glaring sunlight when we first started. I have a .com called www.styletantrum.com. I can direct the com to wherever I'm selling. Right now I have things at multiple shops, so it's easier to have a blog with shop news and just direct searches there. I like having a blog for my site, since I can post pictures of new work and generally do what I want. I am too busy to work on incorporating a cart into my site right now...so for now, just use the links on the right side to visit my shops. Thanks !!!

Shop switching leaves a mess to sort through!

Summer's almost here and it seems like I've spent the last few months getting ready for a show and starting, arranging and switching shops....sheesh!

I'd like to get back to creating soon :) So, I've finally narrowed myself down to about 5 shops I'd like to work on. My primary shop is Artfire for now. Then, I'll be putting a few things in my shops at Zibbet, Storenvy, Etsy and Ebay. I also have a Bonanza store. For now, I'm sorting, trying to find out what things work best where, and for the moment, some shops have duplicates in them. I'm working on rearranging, but for now...it's sort of hit and miss. I'll be adding in the things that aren't listed anywhere soon, as quickly as I'm able to finish sorting :)

So hold on, 'cause I have new things to post. Really !!

Why I love selling on Artfire.com

I'm getting a new shop set up on www.artfire.com and really enjoying it! I've had a basic, free shop there for a long time, but never really had the time to develop it. So now I'm working to try and get it just how I'd like it to look and feel.

I've been a long time seller on other sites and am enjoying this new venue. One thing that is new is the Pro account which is a free trial month of Pro. I loved the basic account, but there are lots of great things to enjoy in the Pro account. Here are some of my favorite reasons I love selling at Artfire.com.

<3 I love not having to pay listing fees and relisting fees to have my dresses and clothes seen by buyers

<3 I love the easy listing process and the fact that my items almost instantly show up in Google search and on Bing search and The Find !!

<3 I love not having to worry about returns. On other sites when an item was returned, you had to pay commission fee for the sale anyway. Paypal returned the commission, but other venues didn't. The commission on the sale of a high end dress is too much to lose ! Artfire charges no commissions or listing fees.

<3 I love having a hosted site that I don't have to worry about security or be sure the cart functions.

<3 I love promotions like this blog post...it encourages shop owners to post things that they love about the site with the chance of winning money to shop on Artfire. That gives sellers a chance to say what they are too busy to mention about the site and makes for a fun, positive vibe to the site.

<3 I love having multiple ways for buyers to pay...my shop has Amazon and Paypal...need to get busy and add Google :)

<3 I love that Artfire encourages sellers to list multiple shops and other links right on the page with items. This is great for customers who want to check out your blogs, twitter, facebook, other shops and feel connected to you before buying.

<3 I love being able to blog right in my shop...still working on posting :)

<3 I love that buyers don't have to join or log in to purchase at my Artfire shop. Lots of buyers would just rather not! It's great because some sites keep your purchase history and it can be a privacy issue for many buyers. Artfire avoids this with non-member purchasing. Yay!!

Shop News! May Changes

I'm transferring most of my designs to my shop at http://www.artfire.com/users/styletantrum soon. Right now most of the items there are wedding gowns and formals. Soon I'll be shifting all but a few things to that shop and trying to settle in. Look for my most recent wedding dresses to be listed there along with prom and formal gowns...all one of a kind, vintage inspired and feminine, romantic wispiness!

I have a smaller shop that I'm stocking at http://www.bonanza.com/booths/pirouette , too. It will be more casual separates, skirts, tops, etc. I'll have these at the shop at Artfire too, but I'll keep a small inventory at Bonanza along with some of my bags and accessories. Since I can sell non-handmade there, I may list some crafting books or even tutorials.

Fashion show pictures are back!!

Pictures!! I love getting pictures :) These were taken by Balance Photography, whose efforts helped begin the Mid-Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase Eco-Fashion Show. I took part in the Fashion Show last year and was inspired again this year by the talent of eco-friendly designers !! There were 20 designers represented this year. It's growing :) These are only a few of my designs, but the other designers' work is wonderful...definitely worth seeing if you're on the look for a green wedding dress or for green wedding planning. On to pics!

Siesta Time Over!!

I've been unintentionally taking a break from selling and unfortunately from blogging! I took time out for the holidays to rest and ponder some biz decisions. When January came I found I was still in rest mode. I think I had been driving myself for several years and just needed an extended 'time off' to catch up with neglected rest.

Some major changes with venues are keeping me unsure which way to go with my designs. At this point, I'm open to business, but 'by request only' information on the designs.

Another thing I've been doing is getting pieces ready for a fashion show that took place in the Washington, DC area a few weeks ago. It is really distracting to create and keep up a shop. I loved the show and will post photos from the event soon. I love fashion shows!! There is so much delight in seeing your pieces on someone...and the models were so wonderful!

I've also been pursuing serious exercise after a long winter, some other creative pursuits and having fun! Business owners don't have much fun...so I set out to make up for lost time :)

cotton muslin and satin short eco wedding gown

I love working with cotton fabrics in wedding gowns...mainly because they are so soft and breathable. I made a little corset top gown with foldover flaps at the bustline and a short skirt. The corset bodice has sweet little hand created pencil pleats and distressed golden satin flower trim. The back has soft pale peachy pink ribbons to tie it closed and a golden satin hand created pouf with an ecru net waterfall type short train below. I love the overskirt which is hand draped and created in raw cut cream chiffon. The dress is softly tattered and very romantic.

It is a one of a kind creation. I'm hoping it is not too short for the taller models who will be at the eco-fashion show! The muslin for the base was recycled new fabric along with the peachy ribbon ties at the back. I have to get a try on done by a taller friend to be sure it will work for the show as it is. Fingers crossed!!

Audrey Hepburn !!

One thing I've been doing on my time off is getting inspired by watching old movies and getting a little visual overload. It's important to spend time soaking visually sometimes. One person that always inspired me is Audrey Hepburn. I found it really interesting to read her biographical information and find that she was a child during the Nazi occupation of her country and used to carry messages to the 'good guys' in her shoes. Also, she spent many days at that time suffering with lack of food and would spend time in bed during the day reading to deal with hunger pangs.

She has such style and grace and I felt like these things explained a lot to me. After her Hollywood career into her later years, she took time to be involved in trips to many nations on behalf of charities involved in helping children suffering as she did. She was a great mother and wife and seemed to age with beauty and charm...always vital and happy. She was a great gardener in her later years as well...which endeared me to her as well.

I found some new and lovely shots of her around the web to show a few different sides of her that we usually see. My favorite Audrey movie is "How to Steal a Million". I love seeing her in the little car zooming around Paris and in her scrubwoman gear. Many thanks to lovely and gracious women like Audrey Hepburn who helped shape the courageous and beautiful ideals of women for me. You were amazing!

Eco Style at the Green Wedding Showcase

I've been taking a break from selling in my shops lately...just kept right on resting after New Years came and went! :) It is good to take time to refresh creatively sometimes. I have been busy the last week or so on getting dresses ready for the Mid Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase Eco Fashion show coming up February 27, 2011.

This showcase is a really lovely collection of businesses that cater to brides wanting to choose ecologically friendly sources for their wedding day - from the invitations to the food...and a lot of things in between! The emphasis is on reducing waste and use of resources by choosing businesses that use sustainable resources for their work.

The Eco-Fashion show, which I took part in last year, is bigger this time...with lots of new wedding gown makers, many from etsy.com. It is exciting to see so many 'green' makers taking part in the show and it is really exciting to see the gorgeous gowns that are being featured!

I always seem to just poke my head up in time to see the change in weather. It seems not only is winter upon us, but Christmas too! I am pondering actually decorating for the season this year, even though it's late, since we'll be spending Christmas at home for the first time in many years, rather than traveling to family. I used to gather rhododendron and holly from the bushes near my house in the mountains to put on the mantle with a tiny white nativity scene. We would add cards to the mantle as we got them and maybe a bow here and there. That was all the decorating we did, since we were going away for the holiday. We would listen to Tender Tennessee Christmas and a few dulcimer carols and we would have a few little treats to eat. Except for the year I made homemade dog treats for gifts, we usually would have homemade Christmas cookies. I never liked the butter cookie types, so we would have peanut butter cookies with the hershey kisses on top. I did make spiced nuts once and they were yummy!

I love the holiday cheer all around and also can't help but ponder the many people who are struggling to have a bit of cheer this holiday. I guess for us, it is just like another day, since we aren't set on having a big Christmas and can't really afford giving to one another. So we are forced to ignore Christmas largely, or perhaps to make gifts for one another. This is harder to accomplish for guys, since handmade bits are less impressive than electronics and necessities they really could use. So I haven't solved the conundrum. Since there is no money to buy gifts, it is largely a moot point. We are just happy to have a home with heat and water and food to eat this year :) .

So we are pondering just doing a few little extras we'd really enjoy for the day and having a non-traditional celebration this year. We might go see Voyage of the Dawn Treader or visit friends. What sort of thing are you doing this Christmas to celebrate? We are having an involuntarily frugal Christmas...but we hope it will still be fun. Mostly, we will just enjoy being together!

It was with a bittersweet feeling I permanently closed my shop at www.colorada.etsy.com this week. I will be gradually moving all my inventory to my remaining shops after the New Year. Meanwhile, I am taking a break from selling to prepare for the holidays and shows. Look for me again after New Years. I'll repost the links to my remaining shops once I'm back open.

Also, my www.styletantrum.com has succumbed to an attack and is now down and empty. While I still have a widget shop located here for that shop, the actual hosted site is down.

I've been busy this month gearing up for a local holiday market and getting ready for selling offline a bit. I made lots of pouches and aprons, most of which will end up on my website StyleTantrum.com. I am hoping to consolidate most of my work there as well as having some listings elsewhere. For now my wedding designs will be there and also at Artfire for the moment. I am feeling a need to get my website up to speed so that I can express my own vision a bit more. Venues are great for chatting and keeping up with other sellers, but in my case can be a drain on time. I think it will work better to simply settle down to 1 or 2 and get back to designing!!

I am excited to again be able to feature some of the accessories I enjoy making from time to time. I like to create cell and laptop cases and love making these in vinyl. I carry my own cell in a vinyl zip case with a strap and keyring to keep everything together. If I want to go without a bag, I can just add a driver's license and credit/debit card and off I go. Sometimes, when I know I will not have pockets or be able to keep up, I use the little hipslinger hip belt bag. I love this and find it really cute and not nearly as troublesome as keeping up with a cell bag jiggling...like on long walks. I made my first hat in a long time too...so more will be coming of these too, I hope. Life is a bit all over the place right now and all my plans are subject to changes in jobs, finances, time, etc. But as far as long range plans go, I hope to keep making things that are wonderful to wear!

Change in the Air !!

There are a few changes in cyberland resulting in our moving lots of our listings to other venues. We still have a few things at Etsy and will keep that shop active for a while. Meanwhile, we are listing wedding dresses primarily at the Artfire shop Style Tantrum. This shop is mostly new, so we haven't had time to stock it much. We also will have a bunch of our items listed at our Zibbet shop, although probably mostly non-wedding items. We'll have formals and other fashion at all our sites. I know this is confusing, but we are shifting our business to more local events, including a fashion show coming up in January in Charleston, SC. We also will be trying out a variety of online shops, while keeping our website StyleTantrum.com functional. Now that your eyes have glazed, let me tell you what's new!!

Designs! I'm working on a full set of wedding designs for an upcoming February-ish Green Wedding Fashion Show event in the Washington DC area....if all goes well. I get a bit sad when the end of summer is in sight...and all the flowers will be hidden away until spring. So I make things that are summery and wish for fall to hurry along so I can get back to warm weather :-)

I made this dress to celebrate summer days and the end of summer of a recycled natural linen skirt and bits and pieces of fabric from my stash in white and ecru(that's a tea color) and chocolate. I gave it old hollywood glamour style sleeves that you can wear skinny or wide and retro. I love how it has a little bit of vintage inspired, slightly distressed feel to it.

Fashion designers have to stay a step ahead of styles...or at least a season. While others may be ready, I confess it is tough to get Fall in my head. It is muggy here and outdoors is mosquitos and lots of sweltering weather still. I just set up my studio again and found...Yay!! the last lurking box of my sewing tools and trims. So I am beginning to work on Fall, but a long time later than I should have. I did make some new pics of Fall fashions this week, but I am not really going full steam yet.

I found a fun pinstriped grey fabric in my stash...perfect for a little excursion into a school style jumper. I made a full dress of it back a ways, but the jumper is so much for fun. It has a halter neckline and can be worn alone in this warmer weather, or with a tshirt or little white puffy sleeve blouse when the temps become more traditionally autumn-ish. So to inspire myself, I'm off to find and post favs from Anthropologie, Free People and Etsy sellers...and to get ready for more things that work for cooler weather, even here :-)

Off To See The World Pillow in Turquoise

Browsing today at EverythingEtsy.com's blog I found a post about the craft studio owned by French designer living in Devon England of ThreeRedApples at Etsy.com. I fell in love with the beautiful and tender little bits made there. My favorites are the See The World series and the little birds and chicks. These are effortless chic and so cute. Decorating isn't really my strongest suit, but I so enjoy it when I see others' work. I found a super cute series on decorating and recycling things for crafting studios at Everything Etsy. Not only did the studios make me want them, they inspired me to try and do something with my wall to wall boxes fiasco. I love sewing and designing, but I can't think with boxes and low light and NO floor space. So today I'm going to try and make a place I can work. If nothing else, I can drape wonderful fabric over the floor to ceiling box piles...lol. We just moved into an extremely tight space and my wonderful walk in storage closet for my creations and supplies is gone....sigh.

So today, I'm going to send you off to see the wonderful craft space series at www.everythingetsy.com , while I dream up another post about an artisan I found there and finally get my studio started. I have bit of inspiration and some caffeine and I may make some headway!! Wish me well!

Moving is Hard to Do!!

I'm off again moving to a new spot for creating and will be off the air briefly.

I am sadly only partially literate in web design speak, so my StyleTantrum.com site has been thru a ton of revisions lately with no functioning cart yet!!! Arrgh!! I will be working on it more when I resurface from my move. It has a new blog there, where I'll keep up with my site news as well.

Since I've been unable to get a cart going for wedding dress designs, I am opening a new shop for selling my handmade, one of a kind wedding designs and other eco friendly fashion. It is located at my new Lattice shop. Check it out!

The Sewing Machine Fun!

I found a fun shop at Etsy tonight, scrolling through shops and loved the little eyeglass cases. The Sewing Machine shop has a variety of fun things for you and your home, from lingerie bags and glasses cases to little bags and aprons. I love the fabrics and the fun relaxed feel of the designs.

I'm always searching for a tiny bag to fit my various glasses...reading glasses for computer work, sunglasses and even glasses glasses for when you don't want to bother. I always find the stock eyeglass cases dull and wish for personality...at least a little. Now I may sew an ipod bag for myself, but I seldom get to the smaller wants on my list. And I love to enjoy someone elses choices and designs. I know you'll love the cool, bright and fun things in The Sewing Machine, and you might want to check back often for these goodies! I know these are a great little pop of fun that will fit any budget!

I have a ton of new things to post and have been busy getting my website set up and not listing new things. So prepare for a rush!

I'll be posting a bunch of new things, mainly at my www.colorada.etsy.com site and my new website. Eventually I'll pust most of my wedding dresses at my website, but for now a few new ones will be posted there. Plus I hope to get the cart portion of my website www.styletantrum.com going the next couple of days. I've been wrestling with shipping!

Looking for an Eco Friendly Wedding Dress?

These days there are a wealth of resources for eco-conscious brides looking to add as much green to their wedding and other related events as possible. I'll be posting resources as I locate them. One great idea is to search for a wedding dress or a full wedding party's attire that is made with green materials or that use recycling or other green strategies to make your wedding inspiring.

One great place to look for wedding clothing for everyone from the bride and groom to the bridal party and even mother's of the bride and groom is Etsy.com. Many shops there offer one of a kind or custom made designs for almost every bride and will work with you to design your own gown.

Many major mainline designers are catching onto this trend also and featuring eco-friendly fabrics in many of their designs. Meanwhile, many independent and specialized designers make all or mostly eco-friendly designs. This is achieved primarily by using eco friendly fabrics in the creation of designs that are ordered custom by the bride. Another possible means is by recycling all or part of a previous wedding or bridesmaids dress from a family member or previously used source such as a thrift store or online bridal resale shop. Another possibility for the diy bride is to make all or part of your wedding dress or accessories. There are some great tutorials and videos available for making your own dress without a pattern.

There are a wealth of other green ideas on blogs to many to mention and the resources are growing. One great blog that lists independent and specialized green wedding gown designers is The Green Girls in the Eco Wed Series. A variety of local resources exist including regional and local wedding dress fashion shows with green designers and entirely green wedding showcases and fashion showcases like the one I attended recently http://www.greenweddingshowcase.com/ecofashionshow.shtml . No matter where you begin, you can find tons of places to gain inspiration and even forums where you can discuss your plans with other brides and find out what they are planning to do at their ceremony. You never know, you just may find some new friends and awesome ideas at the same time!

Love in Tangerine - vintage style

Soft citrus hued empire waist formal with vintage lace trimmed net and satin and chocolate and cream trim. Eco friendly.

She dreamed of paper lanterns waving softly in the breeze and the sound of music wafting over the water and a lazy smile and dark, soft eyes with just a touch of gentle humor in them.

I found this exquisitely detailed lace trimmed vintage slip in a soft citrus orange shade. I added cream chiffon flowers and white, cream and natural linen trim in linen and satin. I added some chocolate brown chiffon and net for contrast. I gave it a flowing net overskirt in citrus net.

I loved the soft creamsicle color of the vintage slip and wanted to make it dreamy somehow.

Espresso to Go!

Dark coffee colored dress with milk chocolate satin ribbon tie and aubergine net embellishments and waist tie are perfect for an evening out.

She liked to wear the softest, swirliest, easy clothes and hated fussing over her look. She liked pecans and almonds and toffee and M&M's in blue.

I found a fun deep coffee colored dress to recycle with a fitted halter top ruched at the bodice center with a milk chocolate satin ribbon halter tie and a swirly skirt. Just for fun I embellished it with swirls of aubergine net at the bodice center neckline. It has an optional net tie for when you want to look just a little more arresting.

White Satin Empire Waist Wedding Gown - Anda

Empire waist off white satin eco friendly wedding dress with golden champagne floral details on the bodice, halter neckline and white filmy trim on back neckline and front slit. Ankle length to show off pretty shoes with individually hand pieced champagne hemline trim.

Dancing was always a favorite thing, but one dance she wanted to never end..this dance she danced now with the one she loved. She wanted to go on, holding each other, swaying to the music of life, kissing each other's hurts away and always near, near enough to hear each other's thoughts, almost.

I found this pretty hollywood glamour style line dress with a complicated halter back and simple empire waistline. It was new but was somewhat plain, so I brought it home to recycle and make prettier. I added golden champagne satin floral trim along one side of the halter neckline and wrapped it down below the bust on the other side for a stunning accent. I simplified the halter neckline and made it so it just slips over your head. I added a piece of filmy raw cut recycled trim for accent on the back halter neckline piece and more on the back neckline of the dress. These hang down in a flattering accent for the back of the gown. I slit the front of the gown to knee height and added more filmy accent pieces along with a spray of raw champagne chiffon. I added a piece of the same chiffon to show inside the slit and to fall below the slit hem for a flowing effect. Then to finish the gown, I added an individually pieced seashell type trim in a pale champagne recycled trim that looks adorable with pretty shoes in the ankle length hemline. Each of them has been individually designed, arranged and attached. The gown is fully lined and is bias cut for great drape and beauty and a tiny bit of extra give.

One thing that happens at www.Etsy.com where I have one of my shops, is that I get to see so many wonderful shops. I get all kinds of ideas of what is available for brides as a sort of preview. Recently I found a friend had opened a shop on www.etsy.com with Bridal Flowers and bouquets and other floral beauties at Botanico & Company.

One of my favorites is the Calla Lily bouquet, since it would be so lovely with spring colors in a wedding. With a champagne or off white gown, the Sunset bouquet is lovely...and would be perfect for an evening wedding, also.

For a bride who loves pink, the Hydrangea and Ranunculus bouquet is awesome and is pictured first. I love the Victorian Rose Kissing Ball too which looks as lovely as it's scent! Botanico offers bouttonieres for the groom and groomsmen, too, as well as flowers for the wedding party and for proms.

Some Non-Traditional and Alternative Wedding Styles

There is a growing trend of brides choosing non-traditional gowns and non-white gowns in all the colors of the rainbow to marry in. Many brides choose a gown in white with added colors, such as pink or blue or black and many choose new silhouettes - mini, knee and tea length gowns.

In a continuing series, I want to feature some un-wedding-y and alternative wedding styles. This week I'll post a few of my non-traditional gowns, both with silhouette and color variations. Then I'll be posting looks from many sources of gowns chosen by brides who want to look different and have fun on their special day.

I made this fun top from a recycled dark chocolate linen shirt. I loved the cut of the shirt and the fact that it is made with bias cut linen for super drapability. I prettied it up just a tad with dark chocolate raw cut chiffon around the neckline. It's simple enough to wear for many events, but pretty enough for a casual date or special occasion.

Back from the Green Wedding Eco Fashion Show !!

I have been so tied up making dresses for the Mid-Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase's Eco Fashion Show that I attended recently, and then with catching up on everything else, that I haven't had time to post the quick snaps of some of my dresses in the show. I wish I had more of them, but my camera batteries died a couple shots after my dresses finished. It was the most fun and cool event I've been to in forever! I loved how organized and beautiful everything was. I didn't get to see all the show from out front, but I loved so many of the other designers featured along with me.

The Aveda hair and makeup of the models was amazing and their page documents the models as they get ready for the show. I'll post more links later, but for now, take a look at the Aveda page for their backstage glimpses and I'll post a few of my pics here. Later on I'll feature the professional shots taken by Balance Photography...the heart and soul of the show and wonderful photographers for your wedding or engagement photos.

Ready for Green Wedding Showcase Eco Fashion Show !

Didn't mean to leave you all dangling out there in cyberland, but I've been madly sewing wedding and formal dresses for the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Green Wedding Showcase's Eco Fashion Show.(February 21, 2010) It's exciting to see what all the other designers come up with and to enter some of my designs into this show. Eco Fashion is fashion made from eco and green products. Mine are made from mostly vintage and recycled fabrics, trim and garments. Many of the designers also will be showing wedding dresses, bridesmaids and formal dresses made with organic fabric, too.

I'll post a couple of pics of some of the new gowns I've been making. I'm keeping a handful of these a secret to add to the drama of the day. When the show is done, I"ll add more pics of each gown and a few of other sights and sounds from the event, if I have a chance to snap pics. I'll be dressing the models...so....hope I can!

Katiana - Creme Ravissement Wedding Gown

I have a new gown on the block...Katiana. It is a tiny gown that is made from the last of the vintage cream slip fabric I had. I have saved it for a long time and finally decided it was time to use it up. I have a few small bits I'll use for trim on other dresses..sigh...it was beautiful !

I added a fifties style raw cut bodice that has that Audrey demure and kittenish shape and a short skirt. It has a gauzy layer above it, a raw cut blue silk flower on the bodice and a beautiful moss green with blue embroidery sash. The back has a scoop with a criss cross in sheer white tied with a bit of soft blue cotton. I love the subtle tones and the feeling of dreaming and romance. The name roughly translates to Cream Delight Wedding Gown. Hope you love it like I do!

Eco Chic Wedding Fashion Show - Come and See My Designs!

I am getting ready for a Green Wedding Fashion Show in the Baltimore-Washington Metro area on February 21, 2010. I'm planning to be there. I make clothes but few people realize that one of my favorite loves is shoes! I don't wear heels too often, so I'm usually on the lookout for adorable and comfortable flats....with the emphasis on adorable! I'm a big looker for shoes but so seldom find both looks and practicality in shoes that I despair! I look at department stores, all sorts of shoe stores from cheap to high end and the sometimes awesome alternative, secondhand shops for shoes. This seems to be a great year for cute shoes if the offerings at Anthropologie.com are any indication. Nevermind the prices, a girl can dream, can't she?? I grabbed a few pics of some of the flats and a couple of the heels I'm loving for spring feet! Enjoy!

I've been feverishly finishing dresses to prepare for an upcoming model photoshoot. If the weather had cooperated it might have been this weekend...but alas! I have to begin by saying I'm not a hat wearer. My hair gets 'hat-head' easily and I resign myself to just wearing one of those browbands in fleece during the winter, and only when I'm out walking or exercising. I finally finished getting a selling system set up on my website www.styletantrum.com ! I chose a new widget shopping cart called ecwid (short for ecommerce/widget). I love the interface and how it is securely hosted at Amazon for all the payment part. I can just make clothes and sell them!! How it works is that you sign up and all your shop details are hosted at the ecwid account at Amazon. Your payments are handled securely at Paypal for now. Later, I'll add Google and other checkout systems. It is super easy to list items too. I'm hoping my shopping cart woes are far behind me! The styletantrum website itself has a security layer, too, although all the custormer information is kept separate.

I've been in the website building wars the last few weeks and finally have thrown in the towel and will be building a shop on Artfire.com, Zibbet.com and one other in addition to my colorada.etsy.com shop. I just am not good enough at the cart part to make it work. The upshot is that I'm getting back sewing and posting things ! Yay!!

Here's a sneak peek of a wedding dress (among many) destined to be posted on etsy soon. I love making simpler, unique wedding dresses for younger, relaxed brides. I'll be using my other sites for lots of pieces of clothing, bags and cell pouches along with a handful of wedding and party dresses. I've had a rough and tumble last few months, getting set up and getting adapted to a new place. I love the coast though and love all the fun things to explore here.

I've decided to open a new website, although I will likely not keep the Andelonie shop. I am finding it hard to upkeep. I expect to reopen my etsy shop soon. I will keep the bulk of my work on my own site, where it will be more convenient to sell and advertise.

I am working on a line of wedding and special occasion dresses and skirts that will be available soon. I will also bring in a new feature soon. Rather than have only one of a kind clothing, I will have a few designs that can be made in several sizes. That way, my designs will be more accessible. Here are a few pics from some of the almost finished pieces in my studio.

I have just a few more favorites from my 'out of communication backlog'. Most of these are from Anthropologie, with some shoes from Isabella Bird and a few odds and ends from elsewhere. I'm still thinking late summer here, as the weather is still often in the 90's. I've been enjoying the more relaxed beach casual style here at the coast and getting lots of great ideas for designs. I was dismayed to realize that I had posted so very long ago, but I've gotten here, gotten to work and made several new styles and am hoping to get going on posting soon. I haven't had regular internet access - and for picture loading, that really is an enormous obstacle. Travelling back and forth from my new home to my mountain home to finish work has been fun and sometimes exhausting, as well. I hope to post a few pics this week of the lovely scenery around here and maybe even dip my feet back into the etsy scene and give you some good recommends for the week. Stay posted ! I'll give you just a peek at some of the lovely stuff around me here.

Well, I'm almost there....moved in and reopening my design studio, but not online yet. So hang in there all you wonderful readers...I'll be up and running soon. I love it here. The weather is beautiful, although I miss my lovely mountains ! Pictures to come soon.

Naturally Hand Repair Balm

I use my hands continually and have them in and out of water most of the day. Along about mid-winter I notice dryness that lotions have a hard time affecting. A recent find is helping the little cracks along the edges of my fingers. I found it while out at a Cracker Barrel restaurant and I loved the scent. It is made by the Upper Canada Soap company. The one I found to recommend is the Naturally Whipped Hand Repair Balm in Pressed Olive Avocado. It is made with all natural ingredients, a standard I try to adhere to in face and body products. It has olive oil, avocado, extract, Shea Butter, Soy Oil and Aloe. While at the website, I found more products to love and try out. If you hands are crying for some relief, see if this one will help your hands out !

I confess to a carefully concealed weakness for shoes and bags. Ninu is an etsy shop that has bags that I completely adore. These are what I classify as 'perfect' bags. They are versatile, fun and cheerful and definitely worth the handmade cost. Moreover, they have that indefinable something, like Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn that makes them classic and romantic. It's always inspiring to see what the cool Etsy designers have cooked up....a thousand ideas swim around in my mind. One designer whose work I really love is www.sewmoe.etsy.com. I love the cute inset bodices in so many of her designs and the fun combinations of fabrics that make dressing to go out for the day adventurous. Her shop has dresses, tops, and a variety of other unique pieces that will intrigue you. I also love the focus on 'forgotten vintage pieces' that are reconstructed into new things to love. Go see sewmoe and see if you can't live without it !

I love finding amazing images. It always surprises me how different eyes can evoke feelings from the same objects with images. Photography always fascinates me because it sort of eludes me. I'd love to improve in this area. One of the photographers I love I ran into at Etsy.com. Karrie Welborn Photography has a wonderful etsy shop full of great photography. I am re-opening my webshop soon...just putting the finishing touches on my site and taking time to get it stocked. Meanwhile, I'll be moving away from my sweet mountainside home to a sweeter southern city. Soon as I'm settled, I'll be opening the 'doors' to shoppers. It's been a long and complicated move....but change has arrived and I'm on my way !

I hope to have a few new things when I reopen, as well as a spring line coming up in late February or early March. Crossing fingers...!

I've decomissioned my old shop, www.dd-skies.com and am down to my etsy shop and my new shop, Andelonie. Both will be open only to window shopping until I arrive and reopen. I'm always on the lookout for tees for the guys in my family. It's a tough search. They really don't like the superdesigned look....they want simple, slightly interesting and above all comfortable. The colors need to be 'guy colors' , a murky area for me. Stubbornly refusing any attempts to get them up to speed in a design way, they prefer 'guy friendly' styles. I've decided to do a mini-series on guy looks available online in case anyone else out there is looking for things for the same type guy.

One shop I've found that has some good designs that meet the above needs pretty flawlessly is totalradness.etsy.com. A guy/girl duo from England produces their tees by hand in a spare bedroom. I love the freshness of the designs and the non-commercial feel of their work. If you get a chance, look into www.totalradness.etsy.com. I think you'll love them.

Anthropologie never fails to inspire me with their beauty, both in photography and clothing. I love the housewares too, but I'll cover some of them later. I found the new catalog of Anthropologie so ethereal. I love the white Swedish furniture in the background and the choices of models are intriguing and satisfying. Theirs is always a unique take on beauty. I never fail to love their shoes and boots...wish I could afford them !! But shoes will have to be another post also!

2009 may be the best year yet !! I am looking forward to expanding opportunities and great delight coming this year in my own and the lives of others. It has been a tough year for so many in 2008, but change is coming and it is gonna be so fun. Change sometimes pushes you to do things you'd not have considered or planned, but it gets you out of ruts and into the new !! Look for doors that close to become opportunities for new open doors..new things! Even if your losses have been deeply costly, your success and your new opportunities may be even greater chances to regain or surpass what has been lost. I watched Taylor Swift sing on New Year's Eve and I love her song, Change. We will keep on getting up and we are gonna succeed brilliantly !!

I've seen a face I love lately in my thoughts and dreams. It's a face that makes me forget everything. It's a face that's beautiful and tender and thoughtful and so much fun. I miss this face when I'm too busy or I forget to go and find my beloved. I am remembering this time of year.... and dreaming...like gardeners dream of spring plantings and nature lovers dream of the flowers and budding trees. I am remembering my friend...my love. I am hearing this voice too...more now. And I don't miss the rest. I am forgetting it all to follow. I didn't know how much I missed him until I saw his face. And it all fades...just that...it all fades away...to only yesterday when I found him...or he found me. I'm having a spring. And spring is far away. I feel like a butterfly on the first day of my life.

Everyday belts are amazingly uninspired and there is nothing quite like the lilt of a sweet belt to add flair to your routine jeans and tees. I love the www.caughtredhanded.etsy.com shop for the amazing 'waist candy' I've found there. The shop features super pendants and the cutest aprons as well. Caught red handed is literally a one-stop shop for those hard to buy for people on your list. I found too many cool things to list, but I mostly adore the belt buckles and the aprons.
